| The Palouse Empire Rail Society has
been in existence for 17 years. Its primary purpose is to allow train buffs
on the Palouse a chance to get together to talk about their favorite topic!
Membership is not restricted by age, sex, or gauge! Our members are interested
in ALL trains, from Z gauge to full scale working railroads.
The Society holds regular meetings on the third Tuesday of each month at the SEL Event Center in Pullman at 7PM (Meeting are subject to change). The SEL Event Center happens to be the new home of our Annual Swap Meet. Meeting topics vary widely. Past meetings have focused on such topics as: weathering details on model trains, designing model train layouts, the economic stability of short-line railroads, a photo tour of the Milwaukee Road from Montana to Seattle, Kansas Depots, preservation of historic railways, and Canadian scenic rail lines. In addition, the Society holds a Train Swap Meet every March in Pullman. 2010 will be the first year for our new home at the SEL Event Center. Train dealers and buffs from around the Northwest attend the Swap Meet to buy, sell, and trade model trains and railroad memorabilia. Because we feel it is important to pass on the legacy of model railroading to the next generation, the Society also has a working demonstration model train layout. This layout has made many appearances around the Palouse, including as Christmas displays in shop windows, at the Lentil Festival in Pullman, and at the annual Swap Meet. The Society is also interested in the
preservation of railways and depots in the Pacific Northwest, and several
members have close ties to the Whitman County Historical Society, Washington,
Idaho, and Montana History Preservation Group, and the
Northern Pacific Railroad Historical Society. |
